Leah Sobsey

Leah Sobsey is an image maker, curator, and Associate Professor of Photography, serving as Director of the Gatewood Gallery at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.

Her multidisciplinary practice spans photography, science, design, installation, and textiles, using archives and taxonomies to explore the natural world through an experimental, materials-based approach.

Her recent and forthcoming projects include In Search of Thoreau’s Flowers at the Harvard Museum of Natural History and an upcoming exhibition at the Huntington Museum, addressing plant loss and environmental change. Sobsey has exhibited internationally, with work in major public and private collections, and has been widely published in leading art and cultural outlets.
